Remote inspection 3000m below surface of Glencore’s Kidd Operations

Glencore’s Kidd Operations is an ultra-deep base metal mine located in Ontario Canada. Mining at more than 3000 metres means dealing with high ground stress, deformation, and seismic activity.

Glencore uses Hovermap throughout the mine to conduct remote inspections of stopes and drives.

“There’s no doubt that the future of mining, especially deep and high stress mining, involves more and more remote inspection,” said Iain McKillip, mine technical services manager at Kidd Operations.

“The deeper we mine, the more we look at going back into closed areas, the more we need tools that can help us get there from a distance. And Hovermap is one of those tools that can do that.”
