Evolution optimises its narrow-vein stopes with Emesent Hovermap

Narrow vein mining methods have been with us for centuries, but they are now adapting by harnessing modern technologies that reduce dilution and improve recovery and safety.

The sector is employing mobile data capture, mapping and modelling technologies that enrich orebody knowledge.

Evolution’s Mungari operation is a narrow-vein gold mine located near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. In February 2020, it deployed the Emesent Hovermap mobile LiDAR scanner for stopes and drives to replace its CMS.

Hovermap provides complete stope coverage, enabling:

  • Easy stope geometry and volumetrics with no splicing of shadowed CMS data.
  • Identification of structures and overbreak that increase dilution.
