Improving wear rates with engineered solutions

An iron ore processing facility in Western Australia has worked with its original equipment manufacturer, McLanahan, to optimise the rotary trommels to handle high tonnage and wear rates.

The existing rotary trommels were designed to operate at 2500 tonnes an hour nominal, however they were regularly operating at their maximum design of 3000 tonnes an hour.

This continued high throughput resulted in increased wear on the equipment.
